World Physiotherapy Day 2026 Marked with Celebrations at PGIMER

PGIMER commemorated World Physiotherapy Day 2026, highlighting physiotherapy's role in cardiovascular and stroke recovery.
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh celebrated World Physiotherapy Day 2026 with a series of events focused on the vital contributions of physiotherapy in healthcare. The celebration aimed to raise awareness about the importance of physiotherapy in managing cardiovascular diseases and aiding stroke recovery.
Highlighting Physiotherapy's Impact on Health
During the event, experts underscored physiotherapy's crucial role in cardiovascular health and stroke rehabilitation. They emphasized how physiotherapy interventions can significantly improve patient outcomes, enhancing quality of life and promoting faster recovery.
Dr. R.K. Sharma, head of the Physiotherapy Department at PGIMER, noted, "Physiotherapy plays a transformative role in the recovery process for cardiovascular and stroke patients. Our aim is to integrate physiotherapy more comprehensively into treatment plans to optimize patient recovery."
Expanding Physiotherapy Services
In addition to PGIMER's celebration, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) announced plans to expand its physiotherapy unit. The expansion aims to accommodate the growing demand for physiotherapy services and enhance the quality of care provided to patients.
The announcement was made during RIMS’ own World Physiotherapy Day celebration, where plans were laid out to introduce new equipment and recruit additional physiotherapists to meet the increasing healthcare needs of the community.
Broader Awareness and Education Efforts
Elsewhere, fitness messages reverberated at the University of Health Sciences Rohtak (UHSR), where initiatives were launched ahead of World Physiotherapy Day to promote a healthier lifestyle. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to educate the public about the benefits of physiotherapy in preventive healthcare.
At various medical institutions, including PGIMER, discussions and workshops were held to educate healthcare professionals and the public about the latest advancements and techniques in physiotherapy. These events aimed to foster a deeper understanding of how physiotherapy can be effectively utilized in various medical conditions beyond cardiovascular and stroke care.
The celebrations across India highlighted a unified effort to recognize and promote physiotherapy’s essential role in healthcare, advocating for its integration into broader treatment protocols to optimize patient health outcomes.
