Union Health Minister J P Nadda inaugurates cutting-edge diagnostic centers at Safdarjung Hospital, marking a significant advancement in affordable healthcare services.

On Thursday, Union Health Minister J P Nadda inaugurated a new Centre for Advanced Bladder Diagnostics alongside PET-CT and SPECT-CT facilities at VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. These new installations aim to enhance specialized diagnostic services while maintaining affordability, according to the Ministry of Health.

Innovative Urology Diagnostics

The Centre for Advanced Bladder Diagnostics, located in the Department of Urology, represents a pioneering effort in India by integrating Video Urodynamics (VUDS) with Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)-based brain mapping. This innovative approach will enable healthcare professionals to diagnose urinary disorders more accurately, particularly complex cases linked to neurological conditions. By assessing changes in cerebral blood oxygenation during bladder filling and emptying, doctors can better determine whether a disorder is primarily bladder-related, neurological, or a combination of both.

The health ministry projects that the center will cater to approximately 5,000 patients annually, providing both diagnostic services and opportunities for postgraduate education and training.

Expansion of Nuclear Medicine Services

The newly established PET-CT and SPECT-CT facilities fall under the Department of Nuclear Medicine and are expected to significantly expand the hospital's diagnostic capabilities. The SPECT-CT facility, in particular, will aid in diagnosing a variety of conditions, including those affecting cardiac, renal, endocrine, orthopedic, and gastrointestinal systems. The nuclear medicine services are anticipated to serve between 600 and 700 patients each year, furthering the hospital's commitment to accessible healthcare.

During his visit, Minister Nadda also took the opportunity to inspect the Heart Command Centre and Sports Injury Centre, reviewing their services and ongoing projects. He emphasized the importance of regular reviews and periodic inspections to ensure that projects are completed on time and meet the set standards.

Enhancing Safdarjung Hospital's Reputation

Minister Nadda praised Safdarjung Hospital for its established reputation and distinct identity within the healthcare sector. He highlighted the importance of setting practical and achievable timelines to ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects. The recent inaugurations reflect the hospital's ongoing efforts to stay at the forefront of medical innovation and patient care.

The introduction of these advanced diagnostic facilities marks a significant step forward in the hospital's mission to provide high-quality, affordable healthcare services. As these new centers become fully operational, they are expected to play a crucial role in improving patient outcomes and enhancing the hospital's educational and training capabilities.
