AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to boost capital expenditure and reduce promoter stake, eyeing long-term growth in global diagnostics.

Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is set to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issuance of shares to bolster its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Expanding Global Reach and Product Portfolio

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a key player in the diagnostics industry, with six manufacturing facilities across India. The company serves over 90 countries, including government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue comes from partnerships with government and international aid agencies.

Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostic system that delivers accurate test results within an hour, making it ideal for resource-limited settings. The company offers molecular testing solutions for more than 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Additionally, it provides radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

Financial Performance and Revenue Growth

Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. The company's net profit saw a 40.2% annual growth, amounting to ₹164.1 crore. During the same period, the operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.

In FY26 alone, the company experienced a 41.7% year-on-year revenue increase, with EBITDA rising by 27.9% and net profit growing by 18.4%. The majority of the revenue, approximately 74%, is derived from the sale of test kits, particularly those for diagnosing tuberculosis, which accounts for 70% of the test kit revenue.

Market Valuation and Investor Appeal

Post-IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on its FY26 net profit. While there are no directly comparable listed peers in India, similar companies in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sectors, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Given its strong financial performance and strategic market positioning, Molbio Diagnostics presents a compelling opportunity for high-risk investors looking for long-term growth in the diagnostics sector. The IPO not only aims to enhance the company's capital structure but also positions it for sustained expansion in the global market.
