AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through its IPO to enhance manufacturing and reduce promoter stake.

Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is set to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at enhancing its manufacturing capabilities and reducing promoter stake. The company intends to secure ₹200 crore for capital expenditures and ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will see the promoter group's stake decrease from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Revenue Growth

With six manufacturing sites across India, Molbio serves over 90 countries, including government health programs and international healthcare organizations. The company has experienced significant revenue growth, largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits. Over the past two fiscal years, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore.

The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, offers a portable diagnostic solution for resource-limited settings, providing accurate test results within an hour. This innovation, along with 43 diagnostic assays covering over 30 diseases, has positioned Molbio as a key player in both infectious and non-communicable disease diagnostics.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with Ebitda margins improving from 22% to 22.6%. In FY26 alone, the company saw a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in Ebitda, and an 18.4% growth in net profit.

Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. This is in line with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.

Investor Considerations and Risks

Molbio's reliance on a few key clients for over half of its revenue indicates a degree of customer concentration risk. Additionally, government and international aid agencies contribute more than four-fifths of its revenue, highlighting potential vulnerabilities to shifts in funding or policy changes.

For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to capitalize on its growth trajectory and innovative product offerings. However, potential investors should weigh these opportunities against the risks associated with customer concentration and market dependencies.
