AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore through IPO for capital expansion and promoter stake reduction.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) aimed at raising a substantial ₹940 crore. The company plans to utilize ₹200 crore from this fresh issue to bolster its capital expenditures, while the remaining ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, resulting in a reduction of the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Expanding Global Reach and Product Offerings

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a strong presence in over 90 countries, supported by six manufacturing facilities across India. The company is renowned for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system that delivers accurate test results within an hour, designed for resource-limited settings. This platform supports molecular testing for more than 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays.

The company's clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Notably, over four-fifths of its revenue is derived from government and international aid agencies, highlighting its significant role in public health sectors.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Molbio Diagnostics has reported impressive financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and a net profit surge of 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA rose 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore during the same period, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.

In FY26 alone, Molbio's revenue jumped by 41.7%, accompanied by a 27.9% rise in EBITDA and an 18.4% increase in net profit. The bulk of the revenue, nearly 74%, is attributed to the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis diagnostic test kits accounting for 70% of this segment.

Valuation and Investor Considerations

The company is attracting attention with a proposed price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, although it lacks directly comparable listed peers in India. Other companies in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device arena, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Investors with a high-risk appetite might find Molbio's IPO appealing, given its robust growth trajectory and strategic positioning in the global diagnostics market. However, the concentration of revenue from a few key clients and reliance on specific product lines could pose potential risks.
