Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO to Fund Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks to raise ₹940 crore through IPO for expansion and stake reduction, targeting long-term growth.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is preparing to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The company plans to secure ₹200 crore via a fresh issue of shares to bolster its capital expenditures and an additional ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, aiming to reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Growth
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a substantial presence in the global diagnostics market. Operating six manufacturing facilities across India, the company serves customers in over 90 countries. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations.
A significant portion of Molbio's revenue is driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of its test kit sales. The company has reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, and a 40.2% rise in net profit to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26.
Innovative Diagnostic Solutions
Molbio has developed the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed to provide accurate test results within an hour, even in resource-limited settings. The platform supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. In addition to its core offerings, Molbio provides radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.
The company's revenue model heavily relies on government and international aid agencies, which contribute over 80% of its revenue. This customer concentration poses both a risk and an opportunity for investors, as it highlights the company's dependence on a limited number of clients while also underscoring its strong relationships with these entities.
Investment Considerations
With a post-IPO price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, Molbio Diagnostics positions itself alongside other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investors with a high-risk appetite might find Molbio's IPO appealing due to its strong revenue growth and innovative product offerings. However, the company's dependence on a narrow client base and the competitive landscape of the diagnostics industry are important factors to consider when evaluating the potential for long-term growth.
