AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹200 crore for capital expansion and plans to reduce promoter stake via a ₹740 crore offer for sale.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to raise ₹940 crore through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The company aims to secure ₹200 crore through the issuance of new shares to enhance its capital expenditures. Concurrently, it plans to generate ₹740 crore by reducing the promoter stake via an offer for sale, which will lower the promoters' holdings from 46.6% to 43%.

Expanding Global Footprint

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a key provider of diagnostic solutions, with operations spanning six manufacturing sites globally. The company serves over 90 countries, catering to government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue comes from its flagship product, the Truenat platform, a portable diagnostic system designed for use in resource-limited settings.

The Truenat platform is particularly notable for its ability to deliver accurate test results in under an hour and supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. The company's revenue is heavily driven by the sale of diagnostic test kits, with tuberculosis kits alone contributing approximately 70% to this segment.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated impressive financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, and net profit rising by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA also saw a growth of 33.2%, reaching ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.

For FY26, the company posted a 41.7% year-on-year revenue jump, a 27.9% increase in EBITDA, and an 18.4% rise in net profit. Despite having no directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, aligning it with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Investment Considerations

The IPO presents an opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth potential. With a robust product portfolio and a strong foothold in the global diagnostics market, Molbio Diagnostics is well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for reliable and rapid diagnostic solutions, particularly in low-resource settings.

However, potential investors should be aware of the company's customer concentration risk, as over half of its revenue is derived from its top clients. Additionally, government and international aid agencies account for more than 80% of its revenue, which could be a point of vulnerability if funding dynamics change.
