Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO to Fuel Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks to raise ₹940 crore through its IPO, aiming to enhance capital expenditures and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics industry, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. The company plans to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue aimed at bolstering capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be generated via an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Growth
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant presence in the healthcare sector with six manufacturing sites across India. The company serves over 90 countries, providing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. A substantial portion of its revenue, over four-fifths, stems from government and international aid agencies, with its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits being a major contributor.
The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostic system designed for use in resource-limited settings, offering quick and accurate test results. Molbio's portfolio includes molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases and additional services through its subsidiaries and collaborations.
Financial Performance and Valuation
Molbio's financial performance has been robust, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During this period, net profit also rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while EBITDA grew by 33.2% to reach ₹328.2 crore. The EBITDA margin improved slightly from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.
In FY26 alone, the company experienced a 41.7% jump in revenue, with EBITDA rising by 27.9% and net profit growing by 18.4%. Post-IPO, Molbio demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it among other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
Investment Considerations
The IPO presents an opportunity for investors with a high-risk appetite, considering Molbio's strong financial growth and strategic market positioning. However, potential investors should be aware of the company's customer concentration, as its top clients account for more than half of its revenue.
With its continued focus on innovation and expansion in global markets, Molbio Diagnostics aims to capitalize on the growing demand for rapid and reliable diagnostic solutions, particularly in addressing critical health challenges such as tuberculosis.
