Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO to Fuel Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore via IPO to boost capital spending and reduce promoter stake, aiming for long-term growth.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company plans to use ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares to bolster its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Strategic Expansion and Revenue Streams
Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has carved a niche in the research, development, and manufacturing of diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing sites across India and serves over 90 countries, catering to government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue, over four-fifths, comes from government and international aid agencies.
The company is renowned for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system that delivers accurate results within an hour, particularly beneficial in resource-limited settings. Molbio offers molecular testing solutions for more than 30 diseases across 43 diagnostic assays and has expanded its offerings to include radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through subsidiaries and strategic partnerships.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Financially, Molbio has shown robust growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.
The company's valuation seeks a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
Investment Considerations
Molbio's IPO is attracting attention from investors with a high-risk appetite due to its potential for long-term growth. The company’s concentration of revenue from key clients and its reliance on tuberculosis diagnostic kits, which account for 70% of its test kit sales, are notable factors for potential investors to consider.
While Molbio does not have a directly comparable listed peer in India, its market position, innovative product offerings, and strategic international presence make it a compelling consideration in the healthcare diagnostics sector.
