Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO to Boost Growth

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore through IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. This initiative includes a fresh issue of ₹200 crore intended for capital expenditures and an offer for sale worth ₹740 crore, which will reduce the promoter's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Growth
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant international presence, operating six manufacturing facilities across India and serving clients in over 90 countries. The company's growth has been driven largely by its innovative tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which contribute to a substantial portion of its revenue. Molbio's top clients, including government health programs and international healthcare organizations, account for more than half of its earnings, highlighting a concentration of customer reliance.
Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, offers portable diagnostic solutions designed for resource-constrained environments. This system provides accurate test results within an hour and supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. The company's portfolio also includes radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions, achieved through strategic collaborations and subsidiaries.
Financial Performance and Market Valuation
Molbio Diagnostics has reported robust financial growth, with revenue from operations rising by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. Net profit during the same period increased by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) saw a rise of 33.2%, reaching ₹328.2 crore, while the EBITDA margin improved slightly to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
For FY26, the company experienced a 41.7% year-on-year revenue increase, with EBITDA and net profit growing by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively. Molbio's post-IPO valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively against other healthcare diagnostics firms in India, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investment Considerations
Given Molbio Diagnostics' significant reliance on government and international aid agencies, which contribute over four-fifths of its revenue, potential investors should consider the associated risks. However, the company's consistent revenue growth and strategic market positioning present a compelling case for those with a high-risk tolerance seeking long-term investment opportunities in the diagnostics sector.
