Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO to Boost Global Reach

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through an IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. This move aims to fund capital expenditures and reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Strategic Financial Moves
The company plans to generate ₹200 crore through the fresh issue to enhance its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to raise ₹740 crore, aimed at decreasing the promoter's share in the company. Molbio's aggressive financial strategy reflects its ambitions to expand its global footprint and solidify its market position.
Global Operations and Revenue Streams
Molbio operates six manufacturing facilities across India, serving more than 90 countries. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's revenue growth is largely driven by its innovative tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for a significant portion of its sales.
The 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system developed by Molbio, is designed for resource-limited settings and offers rapid test results. The company provides over 43 diagnostic assays covering more than 30 diseases. Its revenue from operations surged 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26, while net profit increased by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore.
Financial Performance and Market Valuation
Molbio's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore during the same period, with the EBITDA margin reaching 22.6% in FY26. On a year-on-year basis, FY26 saw a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit. The IPO values the company at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, aligning it with other Indian healthcare and diagnostics firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E ratios between 54 and 81.
Molbio's reliance on government and international aid agencies for over 80% of its revenue highlights its dependency on a few key clients. This concentration could pose risks, but it also underscores the company's strong relationships with major healthcare entities worldwide.
