Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO for Growth and Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore through IPO to fund expansion, reduce promoter stake. High-risk investors eye long-term growth.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leading player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company plans to use ₹200 crore from the IPO for capital expenditures, while the remaining ₹740 crore will be raised through an offer for sale, resulting in a reduction of the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach and Capabilities
Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has grown to operate six manufacturing facilities across India, serving clients in over 90 countries. The company provides diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. Its flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostic system designed for use in resource-limited settings, capable of delivering accurate test results within an hour.
The company collaborates with government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue is generated from government and international aid agencies, which account for over 80% of its income. Notably, Molbio’s tuberculosis diagnostic test kits are a major revenue driver, contributing to 70% of its test kit sales.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with an EBITDA margin that improved to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation aims for a price-earnings multiple of up to 57. Other companies in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sector, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investor Considerations and Risks
Investors with a high-risk appetite may find Molbio's IPO appealing for potential long-term growth, given its strong market position and innovation in diagnostic solutions. However, the company's reliance on a few key clients for over half of its revenue could pose risks related to customer concentration.
As Molbio Diagnostics prepares to expand its global footprint and enhance its technological capabilities, the success of its IPO could significantly impact its growth trajectory. The company's strategic focus on portable, quick-result diagnostic systems positions it well to meet the growing demand in emerging markets.
