Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO for Growth and Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹940 crore through an IPO, focusing on capital expansion and reducing promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, has announced plans to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The company seeks to generate ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares aimed at boosting its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to bring in ₹740 crore, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach with Strategic Investments
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has built a strong presence in the healthcare sector, focusing on diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and serves clients in over 90 countries, including key players like government health programs and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue is driven by its innovative 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system capable of delivering accurate test results within an hour.
The Truenat platform is particularly noted for its effectiveness in resource-limited settings, offering molecular testing solutions for more than 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. The company's subsidiaries and strategic collaborations also contribute to its offerings in radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.
Financial Growth and Market Position
Molbio Diagnostics has shown robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore. The EBITDA margin improved slightly from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In FY26 alone, revenue grew by 41.7%, with EBITDA and net profit rising by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively.
Despite the lack of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio Diagnostics' valuation is competitive when considering other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies. The company is poised with a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, aligning with industry peers like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade between 54 and 81.
Investor Considerations
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity for long-term growth. The company's focus on expanding its manufacturing capabilities and maintaining a strong foothold in international markets could drive future revenue streams. However, potential investors should be mindful of the customer concentration risk, as over half of the company's revenue is generated from its top clients, with a significant 70% from tuberculosis diagnostic test kits alone.
