Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO for Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore in its IPO, aiming to fund growth and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. The company aims to allocate ₹200 crore for capital expenditures and reduce the promoter stake by generating ₹740 crore through an offer for sale. This strategic move is expected to lower the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach and Product Offerings
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself with six manufacturing sites across India, serving clients in over 90 countries. The firm is renowned for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system that delivers rapid and accurate test results, particularly in resource-limited settings. The company's product line includes molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases, leveraging 43 diagnostic assays.
Molbio's revenue is significantly bolstered by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of test kit sales. The firm also collaborates with subsidiaries to offer radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Between the fiscal years 2024 and 2026, Molbio reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue from operations, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. The net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore. The company's EBITDA margin improved slightly to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation, with a P/E multiple of up to 57, aligns with other healthcare diagnostics firms such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investor Considerations
Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents a potential opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth. The company's strong revenue growth, driven by its innovative diagnostic solutions and substantial international presence, positions it as a competitive player in the global diagnostics market. However, investors should be mindful of the customer concentration risk, as a significant portion of revenue stems from a few top clients.
