AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through its IPO, focusing on capital expenditure and reducing promoter stakes.

Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics industry, is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company intends to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares to fund capital expenditures. Simultaneously, it plans to reduce promoter stakes by collecting ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, which will see the promoter group's stake drop from 46.6% to 43%.

Expanding Global Reach and Revenue Streams

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics specializes in developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and serves customers in over 90 countries. These include government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Molbio's products, particularly its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, have been a significant driver of its revenue growth.

Molbio has developed the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system designed for resource-limited settings, which provides accurate test results within an hour. The company offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. In addition, it provides radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Molbio's financials have shown robust growth, with revenue from operations rising 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit increasing by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore during this period, while its EBITDA margin improved from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In FY26 alone, revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA rose by 27.9%, and net profit increased by 18.4% year-over-year.

Molbio's demand for a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57 reflects its growth prospects, although it lacks directly comparable listed peers in India. Competitors in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sectors, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Government and international aid agencies account for over 80% of Molbio's revenue, underlining the company's reliance on these sectors. The firm's top clients contribute over half of its revenue, indicating a customer concentration risk.

Strategic Outlook for High-Risk Investors

Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth. The company's strong financial performance, innovative product offerings, and global reach position it well for future expansion. However, investors should consider the risks associated with its customer concentration and the competitive landscape in the diagnostics market.
