Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO for Expansion and Stake Reduction

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through an IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, eyeing growth in global diagnostics.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is preparing for a significant initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company intends to utilize ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares for capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore is expected to be generated through an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Growth
Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has expanded its operations globally, with six manufacturing facilities in India and a customer base spanning over 90 countries. The company serves a diverse clientele, including government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue, over 80%, is sourced from government and international aid agencies.
The company has achieved significant growth, particularly through its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which contribute to 70% of the test kit sales. Molbio's 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system, offers rapid and accurate results in resource-limited settings, covering over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit soared by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with an improved EBITDA margin of 22.6% in FY26. In the latest fiscal year, revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA by 27.9%, and net profit by 18.4%.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation is notable. Post-IPO, the company is targeting a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, placing it in a competitive position alongside other healthcare diagnostics and medical device firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investment Considerations
Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an intriguing opportunity for investors willing to embrace higher risks for potential long-term growth. The company's strategic focus on expanding its product offerings and enhancing its production capabilities aligns with the increasing global demand for efficient diagnostic solutions. However, investors should weigh the customer concentration risk, as a significant portion of Molbio's revenue is dependent on its top clients.
