Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO for Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to expand its manufacturing and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) aiming to raise ₹940 crore. This financial move is intended to bolster the company's capital expenditures as well as reduce the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Financial Strategy and Expansion Plans
The company plans to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares, which will be directed towards enhancing their capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to raise ₹740 crore. These financial maneuvers are part of Molbio's strategic plan to strengthen its market position and expand its manufacturing capabilities.
Molbio operates six manufacturing sites across India, serving clients in over 90 countries. The company provides diagnostic solutions to various sectors, including government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Its growth has been significantly driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for a major portion of its revenue.
Revenue and Profit Growth
Between the fiscal years 2024 and 2026, Molbio Diagnostics has reported a substantial increase in its financial metrics. Revenue from operations grew by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit increased by 40.2%, totaling ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
In FY26 alone, the company witnessed a 41.7% rise in revenue, a 27.9% increase in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit, showcasing a robust financial performance.
Innovative Diagnostic Solutions
Incorporated in 2000, Molbio focuses on the research, development, and manufacturing of diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. A significant portion of its revenue, over four-fifths, is derived from government and international aid agencies.
The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostic system designed for settings with limited resources, providing accurate tests within an hour. Molbio offers molecular testing for more than 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays and has ventured into radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions via its subsidiaries and strategic partnerships.
Valuation and Market Position
Post-IPO, Molbio's valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. While there are no directly comparable listed peers in India, other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investors with a high-risk appetite may find the IPO appealing given the company's strong growth trajectory, innovative product lineup, and strategic plans for expansion.
