Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO Amidst Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics is launching an IPO to raise ₹940 crore, aiming to bolster capital expenditures and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) with the goal of raising ₹940 crore. The company plans to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares aimed at enhancing its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Key Clients
Operating six manufacturing sites across India, Molbio Diagnostics serves over 90 countries. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's top clients contribute significantly to its revenue, indicating a high level of customer concentration.
Founded in 2000, Molbio specializes in the research, development, and manufacturing of diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. A notable innovation from the company is the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed to deliver accurate results within an hour, particularly in resource-limited settings.
Financial Performance and Revenue Streams
Molbio's financial metrics reveal substantial growth. Between FY24 and FY26, the company's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit saw a 40.2% annual rise to ₹164.1 crore. The operating profit, measured as EBITDA, grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin climbing to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Sales of diagnostic test kits account for 74% of Molbio's revenue, with tuberculosis test kits alone contributing 70% of this segment. Government and international aid agencies are crucial to the company's revenue, making up over 80% of its income.
Valuation and Market Comparison
The IPO values Molbio Diagnostics at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on its FY26 net profit. While the company lacks a directly comparable listed peer in India, other healthcare diagnostics and medical device firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio's IPO presents a potential long-term growth opportunity, backed by strong financial performance and a robust presence in global markets. The company's innovative diagnostic platforms and strategic customer base further enhance its appeal.
