Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in IPO Amid Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to expand its operations and reduce promoter stake, leveraging success in TB diagnostics.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in molecular diagnostics, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) valued at ₹940 crore. The company aims to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares to bolster capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to bring in ₹740 crore, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Drivers
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a global footprint with six manufacturing facilities, serving clients in over 90 countries. The company's Truenat platform, a portable diagnostics system designed for resource-limited settings, has been a significant revenue driver. This innovation provides rapid and accurate test results, particularly for tuberculosis, which accounts for a substantial portion of the company's revenue.
Government health programs and international aid agencies are crucial to Molbio's business model, contributing over four-fifths of its revenue. The company's top clients contribute more than half of its earnings, indicating a concentrated customer base.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio Diagnostics has witnessed impressive financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profits surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA also saw a 33.2% rise, reaching ₹328.2 crore, while the EBITDA margin grew slightly to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's valuation positions it alongside other notable healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs. These firms trade at price-earnings multiples ranging from 54 to 81, while Molbio seeks a multiple of up to 57.
Investor Considerations
The IPO presents a potential opportunity for investors with a high-risk tolerance, given Molbio Diagnostics' strong growth trajectory and strategic market positioning. The company's focus on expanding its diagnostic solutions and leveraging its established Truenat platform could provide sustained growth in the long term.
As Molbio continues to expand its reach and enhance its capabilities, the upcoming IPO will be a critical step in securing the necessary capital to support its ambitious plans. Investors will be closely watching how the company maneuvers its growth strategy in an increasingly competitive global diagnostics market.
