AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore through IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, with strong growth in tuberculosis test kits.

Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising approximately ₹940 crore. The company plans to use ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares to bolster its capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be raised through an offer for sale to reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Footprint and Revenue Streams

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics operates six manufacturing facilities in India and serves over 90 countries worldwide. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company has achieved substantial revenue growth, largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which contribute significantly to its sales.

The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostics system designed for use in resource-limited settings, providing accurate test results within an hour. Molbio offers molecular testing solutions for more than 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Additionally, it provides radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore. During the same period, its net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore. The Ebitda margin improved to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.

In FY26 alone, Molbio experienced a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in Ebitda, and an 18.4% growth in net profit. The company is valued with a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, placing it competitively within the healthcare diagnostics and medical device industry, where peers like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Investor Considerations

Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity for investors with a high-risk appetite to engage in a rapidly growing segment of the diagnostics market. The company's strong financial performance and strategic international presence position it as a potentially lucrative investment. However, the concentration of revenue from a limited number of high-value clients could pose risks, necessitating careful consideration by prospective investors.
