Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore in Ambitious IPO

Molbio Diagnostics seeks to raise ₹940 crore through IPO for expansion and promoter stake reduction.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent name in molecular diagnostics, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company plans to use ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares to boost its capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be garnered through an offer for sale to reduce promoter stakes. Post-IPO, the promoter group's share will decrease from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach
Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has expanded its footprint with six manufacturing units across India, serving over 90 countries. The company is renowned for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable system delivering rapid molecular diagnostic results, particularly valuable in resource-limited settings. Molbio's portfolio includes 43 diagnostic assays covering more than 30 diseases, with a strong focus on tuberculosis test kits, which account for 70% of its diagnostic test kit sales.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, and the EBITDA margin rose to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. The company’s reliance on government and international aid agencies is significant, contributing over 80% of its revenue.
Investment Considerations
Investors with a high-risk tolerance may find Molbio's IPO appealing, given the company’s growth trajectory and market positioning. The IPO demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, aligning with other players in the healthcare diagnostics sector, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
While Molbio lacks directly comparable listed peers in India, its strong revenue growth from tuberculosis diagnostics and a diversified international client base bolster its investment potential. However, the high customer concentration, with top clients contributing over half of its revenue, poses a risk factor for potential investors.
