AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹200 crore via IPO for expansion, reducing promoter stake to 43%. The company aims to boost its global presence.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, has announced plans to raise ₹200 crore through an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at bolstering its capital expenditures. Additionally, the company intends to generate ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Revenue Drivers

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics operates six manufacturing facilities across India and serves clients in over 90 countries. The company has a strong focus on providing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases, with government and international aid agencies accounting for more than 80% of its revenue. Notably, its 'Truenat' platform—a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-limited settings—has been instrumental in the company's success, offering rapid and accurate test results within an hour.

The firm offers molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. A significant portion of its revenue, approximately 74%, is derived from the sale of test kits, with 70% specifically from tuberculosis diagnostic kits.

Financial Performance and Market Valuation

Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio Diagnostics reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue from operations, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. Net profit saw a 40.2% annual growth, amounting to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.

On a year-on-year basis for FY26, the revenue surged by 41.7%, while EBITDA and net profit increased by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively. The company is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57 post-IPO, positioning itself among other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Investment Considerations

Molbio Diagnostics has carved out a niche in the global market with its innovative diagnostic solutions, particularly in tuberculosis testing. However, the company faces a high level of customer concentration, with its top clients contributing over half of its revenue. Investors with a high-risk tolerance may find the IPO appealing for long-term growth, given the company's expanding global footprint and robust financial performance.
