Molbio Diagnostics Sets Sights on ₹940 Crore IPO Amid Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO, aiming to enhance capital expenditures and reduce promoter stake, as it targets global growth.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is preparing to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) valued at ₹940 crore. The company aims to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issue to boost capital expenditures while an additional ₹740 crore will be generated via an offer for sale. This strategic move will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%, as the company seeks to expand its global footprint.
Revenue Growth and Global Reach
Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has carved a niche in developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India, and its products reach over 90 countries. The firm's revenue has been largely fueled by its popular tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which contribute significantly to its sales.
In the fiscal years between 2024 and 2026, Molbio's revenue from operations surged by 31.5% to ₹1,445.7 crore. The company also reported a net profit increase of 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. Its EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Product Innovation and Client Base
Molbio's innovative 'Truenat' platform offers a portable diagnostics system capable of delivering accurate test results within an hour, designed especially for resource-limited settings. The company provides molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations also offer radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.
Government and international aid agencies are crucial to Molbio, accounting for over 80% of its revenue. The company's top clients contribute more than half of its income, highlighting a notable customer concentration.
Valuation and Market Position
With the planned IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. Although the company lacks direct competitors in the Indian market, it aligns itself with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, whose P/E multiples range between 54 and 81.
Investors with a high-risk appetite may find the IPO appealing due to Molbio's consistent financial growth and its established presence in the diagnostics sector. The company's strategic initiatives and product innovations position it well for long-term growth in the global healthcare market.
