AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake. High-risk investors may find potential in its robust growth.

Molbio Diagnostics Targets ₹940 Crore Through IPO

Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is set to raise ₹940 crore through its upcoming initial public offering (IPO). The company plans to use ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares for capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale. This move will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics specializes in developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities in India and serves over 90 countries, including partnerships with government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Molbio Diagnostics has reported strong financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore from FY24 to FY26. The net profit also grew by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore during the same period. The company's EBITDA rose 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, and the EBITDA margin improved to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.

The company's revenue is heavily concentrated on its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of its test kit sales. Overall, test kits make up approximately 74% of Molbio's total revenue. The company's top clients contribute over half of its revenue, indicating a significant customer concentration.

Truenat Platform and Strategic Collaborations

Molbio has developed the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system that provides accurate test results within an hour, designed for resource-limited settings. The platform offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Molbio also provides radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

Government and international aid agencies form a significant portion of Molbio's revenue, accounting for over four-fifths of its income. This reliance on large institutional clients underscores the company's strategic positioning in the global healthcare market.

Investor Considerations

The IPO comes as Molbio seeks to capitalize on its growth trajectory and expand its market presence. With a post-IPO price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, the company stands among its peers in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sector, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which have P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

For high-risk investors, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to invest in a company with a robust growth record and a strong market position. However, potential investors should consider the company's customer concentration and reliance on a few key revenue streams.
