Molbio Diagnostics Seeks ₹940 Crore in IPO for Expansion and Stake Reduction

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹940 crore through IPO for growth and reducing promoter stake, targeting high-risk investors.
Molbio Diagnostics, a leading player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is preparing to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The company plans to generate ₹200 crore from a fresh issue aimed at bolstering capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be raised through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach with Innovative Solutions
With six manufacturing facilities spread across India, Molbio Diagnostics serves over 90 countries, providing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The firm is renowned for its Truenat platform, a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-limited settings, delivering accurate test results within an hour. This innovation supports the company's mission to address healthcare challenges in underserved areas.
Molbio's revenue is heavily reliant on its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of its test kit sales. Overall, these sales contribute 74% of the company's revenue. The company's clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations, with a significant portion of revenue derived from government and international aid agencies.
Robust Financial Growth
The company's financial performance has been impressive, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also saw a 33.2% increase to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving slightly to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
In FY26, Molbio reported a 41.7% jump in revenue year-on-year, while EBITDA and net profit grew by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively. These figures underscore the company's strong financial health and its potential for continued growth.
Valuation and Market Position
Post-IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is expected to demand a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively among other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's innovative product offerings and strong financial track record make it an attractive option for investors with a high-risk appetite. The company's strategic focus on expanding its global footprint and enhancing its diagnostic capabilities could provide substantial long-term growth opportunities for stakeholders.
