AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through an IPO, targeting growth in diagnostic solutions.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is poised to enter the public market with an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising a total of ₹940 crore. The company plans to allocate ₹200 crore from a fresh issue to bolster its capital expenditure, while the remaining ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Product Portfolio

Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has carved a niche in the research, development, and manufacturing of diagnostic solutions, primarily for infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and supplies its products to over 90 countries, servicing government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations.

A significant portion of Molbio's revenue stems from its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-limited settings. This platform provides rapid and accurate test results for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Notably, tuberculosis diagnostic test kits account for 70% of the test kits sold, contributing significantly to the company's revenue.

Financial Performance and Growth

Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth in recent years. Between FY24 and FY26, the company's revenue from operations surged by 31.5% annually to reach ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit increased by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore. The operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the Ebitda margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.

In FY26 alone, Molbio reported a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in Ebitda, and an 18.4% growth in net profit year-on-year. These figures underscore the company's strong market position and its potential for continued expansion.

Valuation and Market Position

Post-IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, a figure that aligns with the valuation range of other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.

Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's strong financial performance and strategic global presence make it an attractive proposition for investors with a high-risk tolerance, seeking long-term growth opportunities in the diagnostics sector.
