Molbio Diagnostics Plans ₹940 Crore IPO to Fund Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹200 crore for capital expansion and ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, impacting promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The Goa-based company plans to use ₹200 crore from the fresh issue to bolster its capital expenditures, while ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43% post-IPO.
Financial Performance and Market Presence
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a strong foothold in the diagnostics industry, particularly with its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-limited settings. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and exports its products to over 90 countries. Key clients, including government health programs and international aid agencies, account for more than 80% of its revenue.
In recent years, Molbio has experienced robust financial growth. Revenue from operations climbed 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26, with net profit increasing by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, and its EBITDA margin grew to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. The revenue surge is largely attributed to the sales of diagnostic test kits, particularly those for tuberculosis, which make up 70% of its test kit sales.
Valuation and Investment Considerations
For potential investors, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to invest in a company with a strong growth trajectory and a significant market presence. The IPO values the company at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, which is comparable to other major players in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sectors such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, whose P/E ratios range between 54 and 81.
However, the company's high customer concentration could pose a risk. With top clients contributing over half of the revenue, any changes in these relationships could impact financial stability. Despite this, the company's innovative approach and robust growth in the diagnostics field make it an attractive option for high-risk investors seeking long-term gains.
