Molbio Diagnostics IPO Targets ₹940 Crore for Expansion and Stake Reduction

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise funds through an IPO to expand operations and reduce promoter stake, with a focus on its successful tuberculosis test kits.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is preparing to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The funds will be divided between a fresh issue of ₹200 crore for capital expenditures and ₹740 crore through an offer for sale that will reduce the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Focus on Tuberculosis Diagnostics
Established in 2000, Molbio has carved a niche in the diagnostics market with its 'Truenat' platform, which provides rapid and accurate testing solutions. This portable diagnostics system is particularly effective in resource-limited settings, delivering results in under an hour. The company offers molecular testing for over 30 diseases, but a significant portion of its revenue—74%—comes from the sale of test kits, with 70% of this attributed to tuberculosis diagnostics.
Global Reach and Financial Performance
Molbio operates six manufacturing facilities in India and serves clients in over 90 countries, including government health programs and international healthcare organizations. The company has experienced robust financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit rising by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore from FY24 to FY26.
The company's EBITDA also saw a significant increase of 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In the latest fiscal year, revenue grew by 41.7%, EBITDA by 27.9%, and net profit by 18.4%.
Investment Considerations
Molbio Diagnostics' IPO is expected to demand a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively against other healthcare diagnostics firms like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, and Metropolis Healthcare, whose P/E multiples range from 54 to 81. Despite its strong financials and market presence, the company's reliance on a few major clients for over half of its revenue poses a risk for potential investors.
Given these dynamics, the IPO presents an opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth, particularly those interested in the expanding market for diagnostic solutions tailored to infectious diseases.
