Molbio Diagnostics IPO Seeks ₹940 Crore Amidst Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore via IPO, targeting expansion and reducing promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company plans to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue to bolster its capital expenditures. Concurrently, an offer for sale will generate ₹740 crore, aimed at reducing the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach and Product Offerings
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a robust international footprint with six manufacturing facilities across India, serving clients in over 90 countries. The company is renowned for its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system that delivers results within an hour, catering to both infectious and non-communicable diseases.
Its product portfolio includes molecular testing solutions for more than 30 diseases, supported by 43 diagnostic assays. A substantial portion of its revenue, approximately 74%, is derived from the sale of diagnostic test kits, with tuberculosis kits alone contributing 70% of this figure.
Financial Performance and Market Valuation
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio Diagnostics reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. Net profits also rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2%, with margins expanding from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.
For FY26, the company demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning itself amidst other healthcare diagnostics firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Customer Base and Revenue Concentration
Molbio's revenue is heavily reliant on a select group of top clients, accounting for more than half of its earnings. Government health programs and international aid agencies contribute over 80% of the company's revenue, highlighting a concentration risk that investors should consider.
Despite this, the firm's strategic collaborations and subsidiary offerings in radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening bolster its market presence and diversification.
As Molbio Diagnostics prepares for its IPO, it presents an opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth in the diagnostics sector. The company's established global presence and innovative product offerings position it as a significant player in molecular diagnostics.
