Molbio Diagnostics IPO: Potential Long-Term Growth for Risk-Takers

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹200 crore for expansion, with plans to reduce promoter stake by ₹740 crore. The company shows promising growth despite customer concentration.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is preparing to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹200 crore to boost its capital expenditures. Additionally, the company plans to reduce its promoter stake by generating ₹740 crore through an offer for sale. The IPO will see the promoter group's stake drop from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Drivers
Operating six manufacturing facilities across India, Molbio Diagnostics caters to over 90 countries. Its clientele includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's revenue growth has been significantly driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, with these kits accounting for a substantial portion of its sales.
Molbio's 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system, has been pivotal in providing accurate test results within an hour, especially in resource-limited settings. The company offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. More than 74% of its revenue is derived from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis kits being the most significant contributor.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio Diagnostics reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit saw a 40.2% annual growth to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.
In FY26 alone, the company experienced a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit. Despite these impressive figures, Molbio faces customer concentration risks, with its top clients contributing over half of its revenue.
Valuation and Market Comparison
Post-IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is expected to demand a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on its net profit for FY26. While it lacks a directly comparable listed peer in India, other companies in the healthcare diagnostics and medical devices sector, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity to invest in a company with a strong revenue growth trajectory and a significant presence in the global market. However, the concentration of revenue from a few key clients and the competitive landscape of the diagnostics industry remain factors to consider.
