AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹200 crore for expansion and reduce promoter stake through its IPO. Focused on tuberculosis test kits, it targets high-risk investors.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) with the goal of raising ₹200 crore to fund capital expenditures. In addition, the company plans to generate ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Strategic Expansion and Revenue Growth

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant presence in the healthcare market with its innovative diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities in India and serves customers in over 90 countries. Its clients include government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations.

Molbio's revenue has seen a substantial boost, largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits. Between FY24 and FY26, the company's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit grew by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore during the same period, with the Ebitda margin improving to 22.6% in FY26.

Innovative Diagnostics Platform

Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostics system designed for use in resource-limited settings. It provides accurate test results within an hour and supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Nearly 74% of Molbio's revenue is derived from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis diagnostic kits accounting for 70% of that figure.

The company's strategic collaborations and subsidiaries have enabled it to offer a diverse range of solutions, including radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening.

Valuation and Market Position

Post-IPO, Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on its net profit projections for FY26. Although the company lacks directly comparable listed peers in India, other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

The IPO presents an opportunity for high-risk investors, given Molbio's strong financial performance and market position. However, the company's revenue concentration, with over half of its revenue coming from top clients, poses potential risks.
