Molbio Diagnostics IPO Eyes ₹940 Crore for Expansion and Stake Reduction

Molbio Diagnostics plans an IPO to raise ₹940 crore for capital expansion and promoter stake reduction. The firm's growth hinges on its diagnostic test kits.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is preparing to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company's strategy involves two components: a fresh issue of shares worth ₹200 crore dedicated to capital expenditures and an offer for sale expected to generate ₹740 crore. This move will see the promoter group's stake decrease from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Reach with Diverse Offerings
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a crucial supplier of diagnostic solutions, serving over 90 countries. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India, catering to government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue is derived from its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which have driven notable revenue growth.
The company’s flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, offers portable and efficient diagnostic testing, crucial for resource-limited settings. With capabilities to test over 30 diseases, Molbio provides 43 diagnostic assays alongside radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and partnerships.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio's financials reflect robust growth, with a 31.5% annual increase in revenue, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. Net profits rose by 40.2% annually to ₹164.1 crore, while EBITDA increased by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, resulting in an EBITDA margin improvement to 22.6% in FY26. The company's revenue from operations saw a year-on-year jump of 41.7% in FY26, with EBITDA and net profit increasing by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively.
Despite the absence of direct competitors in the Indian market, Molbio's potential valuation post-IPO suggests a price-earnings multiple of up to 57. This places it in a competitive range with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
Investor Considerations and Risks
For investors with a high-risk tolerance, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to tap into the growing diagnostics market. The company's reliance on a few major clients, who contribute over half of its revenue, signals a concentration risk. Furthermore, government and international aid agencies account for over 80% of its revenue streams, which could be susceptible to policy changes and funding fluctuations.
As Molbio Diagnostics navigates its IPO, the company's ability to sustain growth through innovation and global market expansion will be closely monitored by investors and industry analysts alike.
