Molbio Diagnostics' IPO Aims for ₹940 Crore to Boost Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics targets ₹940 crore through its IPO, focusing on capital expansion and reducing promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, has announced plans to raise ₹940 crore through its initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to secure ₹200 crore via a fresh issue of shares to bolster its capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expansion and Revenue Growth
Established in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has grown into a significant provider of diagnostic solutions, focusing on both infectious and non-communicable diseases. It operates six manufacturing sites and serves over 90 countries, with government health programs and international aid agencies contributing to more than 80% of its revenue. The company has experienced notable financial growth, with a 31.5% annual increase in revenue, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, and a 40.2% rise in net profit to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26.
Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, offers rapid and accurate diagnostic testing in resource-limited settings. This innovation has played a crucial role in the company's success, particularly in the sale of tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of its test kit revenue.
Financial Performance and Market Position
The company's EBITDA rose 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore over the same period, with an EBITDA margin improvement from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In FY26 alone, Molbio saw a 41.7% increase in revenue, a 27.9% rise in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit.
Molbio Diagnostics' IPO demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it competitively among Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, whose P/E multiples range between 54 and 81. Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's strong market presence and continued innovation underscore its potential for long-term growth.
Investor Considerations
High-risk investors may find Molbio's IPO appealing, given the company's robust financial growth and strategic initiatives to expand its global footprint. However, the concentration of revenue from a few key clients and the reliance on government and international aid agencies could present challenges.
Molbio's strategic focus on expanding its diagnostic offerings and enhancing its manufacturing capabilities positions it well for future growth. Investors should weigh these opportunities against the inherent risks in the diagnostics sector.
