AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹200 crore for expansion and cut promoter stake with a ₹740 crore offer for sale, targeting high-risk investors.

Molbio Diagnostics is setting the stage for a significant financial move with its upcoming IPO, aiming to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issuance of shares. The funds will be directed towards enhancing capital expenditures. Simultaneously, the company plans to trim its promoter stake by generating an additional ₹740 crore through an offer for sale.

Strategic Expansion and Revenue Growth

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has carved a niche in the field of molecular diagnostics. With six manufacturing sites globally, the company serves over 90 countries. Its operations are heavily reliant on government and international health organizations, which contribute to more than 80% of its revenue. A significant portion of this revenue is driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of sales within its diagnostic test kit segment.

The company has achieved substantial financial growth, with revenue from operations escalating by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit soared by 40.2%, reaching ₹164.1 crore. The operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) also rose by 33.2%, attaining ₹328.2 crore, with an Ebitda margin increase to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.

Innovative Diagnostic Solutions

Molbio has developed the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system tailored for resource-constrained settings. This innovation offers quick and accurate test results for over 30 diseases, available through 43 diagnostic assays. The company also provides solutions in radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

The company's strategic focus on innovation and expanding its diagnostic solutions plays a crucial role in its growth trajectory. However, the IPO presents a high-risk opportunity, primarily due to the customer concentration risk, as top clients contribute over 50% of the company's revenue.

Market Valuation and Investor Considerations

Post-IPO, Molbio's promoter group's stake will decrease from 46.6% to 43%. The company seeks a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, which positions it competitively among other diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, whose P/E multiples range between 54 and 81.

For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio Diagnostics' IPO could represent a promising long-term growth opportunity. The company's robust revenue growth and innovative product offerings make it a compelling choice, despite the inherent risks associated with customer concentration and market competition.
