Molbio Diagnostics IPO: A High-Risk Bet for Long-Term Growth?

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹200 crore for expansion while reducing promoter stake through a ₹740 crore offer for sale.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in molecular diagnostics, is set to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh stock issue aimed at boosting its capital expenditures. Additionally, the company plans to generate ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, which will see the promoter group's stake drop from 46.6% to 43% post-IPO.
Expanding Global Reach and Revenue Streams
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has grown to operate six manufacturing facilities across India, serving over 90 countries. The company provides diagnostic solutions to government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A substantial portion of its revenue is driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, with its top clients contributing more than half of its earnings, showing a significant customer concentration.
The firm has developed the 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system designed for resource-limited settings, capable of delivering accurate test results within an hour. Molbio offers over 43 diagnostic assays for more than 30 diseases and collaborates with subsidiaries for radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit saw a 40.2% annual rise to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. Notably, in FY26 alone, revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA rose by 27.9%, and net profit climbed by 18.4% year-over-year.
While Molbio has no directly comparable listed peers in India, its valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. This figure is competitive when compared to other Indian healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Investor Considerations
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to engage with a company that has demonstrated robust revenue growth and a strong market presence. However, the concentrated revenue base and reliance on a few key clients pose potential risks. The company's strategic initiatives, including its Truenat platform and expanding global reach, may appeal to those seeking long-term growth in the diagnostics sector.
