Molbio Diagnostics IPO: A High-Risk Bet for Long-Term Growth?

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹940 crore via IPO, targeting capital expansion and reduced promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore IPO
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics space, is poised to launch an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. The company plans to allocate ₹200 crore from fresh equity issuance for capital expenditure while reducing promoter stake through an offer for sale worth ₹740 crore. Post-IPO, the promoter group's stake is expected to drop from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Footprint and Revenue Streams
Operating six manufacturing facilities across India, Molbio Diagnostics serves over 90 countries, supplying government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's flagship product, the Truenat platform, is a portable diagnostic system that provides rapid results for over 30 diseases, including tuberculosis, which contributes significantly to its revenue. Molbio's strong reliance on government and international aid agencies accounts for more than 80% of its income.
Financial Performance and Growth
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio Diagnostics reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue from operations, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. Net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In the most recent fiscal year, revenue saw a 41.7% year-on-year jump, while EBITDA and net profit rose by 27.9% and 18.4%, respectively.
Investment Considerations and Market Position
With a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57 post-IPO, Molbio Diagnostics presents a potentially lucrative opportunity for high-risk investors. While the company lacks direct listed peers in India, its valuation aligns with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device firms like Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
The IPO represents a strategic move for Molbio Diagnostics to bolster its market position and expand its manufacturing capabilities. However, potential investors should consider the company's heavy dependence on a few major clients and the inherent risks associated with the healthcare diagnostics sector.
