Molbio Diagnostics IPO: A High-Risk Bet for Future Growth?

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹200 crore via fresh shares and ₹740 crore through an offer for sale. High-risk investors weigh long-term growth potential.
Molbio Diagnostics, a notable player in the molecular diagnostics sector, has announced plans to raise ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares aimed at bolstering its capital expenditures. In addition, the company is set to generate ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%. This move comes as the company seeks to leverage its stronghold in the diagnostics market, particularly with its tuberculosis test kits that have significantly driven revenue growth.
Expanding Global Reach and Revenue Streams
With six manufacturing facilities across India and a presence in over 90 countries, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a key supplier to government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's top clients account for more than half of its revenue, highlighting a concentration risk but also underscoring strong partnerships. The primary revenue driver remains its diagnostic test kits, with tuberculosis testing accounting for 70% of this segment.
Financial Performance and Market Valuation
Between fiscal years 2024 and 2026, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. The net profit for the same period saw a 40.2% annual growth, totaling ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% by FY26. These figures indicate robust financial health, although the company's post-IPO price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57 could be a point of consideration for potential investors.
Strategic Innovations and Market Position
Founded in 2000, Molbio has been at the forefront of developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. Its 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system, is designed for resource-limited settings and provides accurate test results within an hour. The company offers molecular testing for over 30 diseases across 43 diagnostic assays. It also provides radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.
Despite having no directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio's market position is often compared to other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
