Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO to Fuel Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans an IPO to raise ₹940 crore, aiming to boost capital expenditure and reduce promoter stake while expanding its global reach.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, has unveiled plans for an initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹940 crore. The company aims to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares, primarily to enhance its capital expenditures. Concurrently, it plans to raise an additional ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, which will see the promoter group's stake drop from 46.6% to 43%.
Expanding Global Footprint
With six manufacturing facilities in India, Molbio Diagnostics serves clients in over 90 countries. These clients include government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company's revenue has seen significant growth, largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for a substantial portion of its earnings.
Molbio's innovative 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system, offers rapid and accurate results, making it suitable for resource-limited settings. The company provides molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays and has diversified its offerings with radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions through subsidiaries and collaborations.
Financial Performance and Valuation
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio Diagnostics reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue from operations, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. During the same period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. Year-on-year, FY26 saw a 41.7% revenue increase, a 27.9% rise in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit.
The IPO values the company at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, a figure that aligns with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
High-Risk Investment Consideration
Molbio's reliance on a concentrated customer base, with top clients contributing more than half of its revenue, presents a risk factor for potential investors. Additionally, over four-fifths of its revenue is derived from government and international aid agencies. Despite these risks, the company's robust growth prospects and expansion plans may appeal to investors with a high-risk appetite seeking long-term gains.
Incorporated in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a key player in the diagnostics industry, focusing on both infectious and non-communicable diseases. As the company prepares for its IPO, the funds raised are expected to bolster its manufacturing capabilities and support its ambitious global expansion strategy.
