AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO aiming to expand operations and reduce promoter stake.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to enter the public markets with an initial public offering (IPO) that aims to raise a total of ₹940 crore. This move involves a fresh issue of shares worth ₹200 crore to support capital expenditures, alongside an offer for sale generating ₹740 crore to reduce the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43% post-IPO.

Expanding Global Footprint and Revenue Streams

With six manufacturing facilities across India, Molbio Diagnostics serves over 90 countries, reaching a broad clientele that includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company has seen significant revenue growth, largely driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits. Notably, nearly 74% of its revenue is derived from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis kits contributing 70% to this segment.

Founded in 2000, Molbio has built a reputation for its innovative 'Truenat' platform. This portable diagnostics system is tailored for resource-limited settings, offering reliable test results within an hour. The company provides molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. It also extends its services through subsidiaries and strategic partnerships, offering radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.

Financial Performance and Market Position

Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with an EBITDA margin improvement from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. In FY26 alone, revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA by 27.9%, and net profit by 18.4% year-on-year.

Molbio Diagnostics is aiming for a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57 post-IPO, positioning itself alongside other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Investment Considerations for High-Risk Investors

As Molbio Diagnostics prepares for its IPO, potential investors with a high-risk appetite might consider the offering for long-term growth prospects. The company's strong revenue growth, expansive international reach, and innovative product offerings position it as a significant player in the diagnostics industry. However, the concentration of revenue from a few major clients and the competitive landscape are factors to consider when evaluating this investment opportunity.
