Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO for Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to enhance capital and reduce promoter stake, aiming for long-term growth in the global diagnostics market.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics field, is set to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at bolstering its capital expenditure and reducing promoter stake. The company plans to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares while generating ₹740 crore via an offer for sale. This financial move is expected to decrease the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Streams
With six manufacturing facilities in India, Molbio Diagnostics serves clients in over 90 countries, including government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, and international healthcare organizations. The company has reported significant revenue growth, primarily driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits. Nearly 74% of its revenue stems from the sale of test kits, with 70% of this segment attributed to tuberculosis diagnostics.
The company's innovative 'Truenat' platform has been a game-changer, offering portable diagnostic solutions designed for resource-limited settings. This platform provides accurate test results within an hour, addressing the needs of both infectious and non-communicable disease testing.
Financial Performance
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. Net profit saw a 40.2% annual growth, amounting to ₹164.1 crore. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (Ebitda) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the Ebitda margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
On a year-on-year basis in FY26, revenue jumped by 41.7%, Ebitda rose by 27.9%, and net profit grew by 18.4%. This robust financial performance highlights Molbio's potential for sustained growth in the competitive diagnostics market.
Valuation and Market Comparison
Molbio Diagnostics is seeking a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on post-IPO equity and net profit projections for FY26. While the company lacks directly comparable listed peers in India, it aligns with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
As Molbio Diagnostics prepares for its IPO, high-risk investors are evaluating the potential for long-term growth. With its established global presence and innovative diagnostic solutions, the company is positioned to capitalize on expanding healthcare needs worldwide.
