Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO for Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics seeks ₹940 crore via IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, with a focus on its Truenat platform.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics industry, has announced plans to raise ₹940 crore through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The company aims to secure ₹200 crore to bolster its capital expenditures and an additional ₹740 crore through an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoters' stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Expansion Plans and Market Reach
With six manufacturing facilities across India, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant presence in over 90 countries. The company provides diagnostic solutions to government health programs, diagnostic labs, and international healthcare organizations. A substantial portion of its revenue is driven by its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, part of the Truenat platform, which is designed to deliver rapid and accurate results in resource-limited settings.
The Truenat platform is recognized for its ability to conduct molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. In addition to its test kits, Molbio offers radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions, enhancing its portfolio through strategic collaborations and subsidiaries.
Financial Performance and Investor Considerations
From FY24 to FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations surged by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit climbed by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with an EBITDA margin improvement from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26. On a year-over-year basis in FY26, revenue increased by 41.7%, EBITDA by 27.9%, and net profit by 18.4%.
Despite the lack of direct listed peers in India, Molbio Diagnostics' valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. This is in line with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E multiples between 54 and 81.
Strategic Implications for High-Risk Investors
While Molbio Diagnostics presents a promising growth trajectory, potential investors should consider the concentration of its customer base, with top clients contributing over half of its revenue. The company's reliance on government and international aid agencies, which account for over four-fifths of its revenue, also poses a risk.
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio Diagnostics' IPO offers an opportunity to invest in a company with a strong growth record and strategic global reach. However, the concentration of revenue sources and competitive market valuations should be carefully weighed.
