Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO for Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, seeking growth in global diagnostics markets.
Molbio Diagnostics is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise ₹940 crore, as the company seeks to expand its operations and reduce promoter holdings. The molecular diagnostics firm plans to secure ₹200 crore through fresh share issuance to bolster capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43% post-IPO.
Expanding Global Reach and Revenue
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant presence in the diagnostics sector, operating six manufacturing facilities across India. The company serves over 90 countries, supplying diagnostic solutions to government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A substantial portion of its revenue comes from tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which have driven notable growth.
Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is designed for resource-limited settings, offering reliable test results within an hour. The platform supports molecular testing for over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. The company also provides solutions in radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening through its subsidiaries and strategic partnerships.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio's revenue from operations increased by 31.5% annually, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. Net profit saw a robust annual growth of 40.2%, amounting to ₹164.1 crore. The company's operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with an EBITDA margin improvement from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.
The company's financials highlight its strong market position, although its revenue heavily depends on tuberculosis test kits, which account for 74% of its sales.
Valuation and Investor Considerations
Molbio Diagnostics is entering the market with a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, based on its post-IPO equity and net profit for FY26. While lacking directly comparable listed peers in India, its valuation is in line with other healthcare diagnostics companies such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
For investors with a high-risk appetite, the IPO presents an opportunity to invest in a growing diagnostics company with a strong international footprint. However, the company's revenue concentration in specific products and clients may be a point of consideration for potential investors.
