AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore via IPO, aiming to enhance capital expenditures and reduce promoter stake, focusing on tuberculosis diagnostics.

Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to raise ₹940 crore through its initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to secure ₹200 crore by issuing fresh shares to enhance its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Global Reach and Revenue Growth

With six manufacturing facilities spread across India, Molbio Diagnostics serves a vast clientele in over 90 countries. The company's products play a significant role in government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Notably, its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits have driven substantial revenue growth, with these kits alone accounting for 70% of the sales.

The company's Truenat platform, a portable diagnostics system, is designed for use in resource-limited settings, delivering accurate test results within an hour. This innovation has positioned Molbio as a significant contributor to diagnosing over 30 diseases through 43 diagnostic assays. Strategic collaborations have expanded their offerings to include radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.

Financial Performance

Between fiscal years 2024 and 2026, Molbio reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue from operations, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit rose 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) witnessed a 33.2% growth to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. In FY26 alone, Molbio's revenue surged by 41.7%, EBITDA climbed by 27.9%, and net profit increased by 18.4%.

Investment Appeal

For potential investors, Molbio Diagnostics presents a promising opportunity, particularly for those with a high-risk appetite. The company's post-IPO valuation suggests a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57. Although there is no directly comparable listed peer in India, similar companies in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sector, such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.

Founded in 2000, Molbio focuses on the research, development, and manufacturing of diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. With over 80% of its revenue stemming from government and international aid agencies, the company has established itself as a reliable partner in the global healthcare diagnostics arena.
