AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore via IPO to boost capital expenditure and reduce promoter stake.

Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics arena, is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. The company intends to utilize ₹200 crore from the fresh issue to enhance its capital expenditures, while an offer for sale is expected to generate an additional ₹740 crore, reducing the promoter stake from 46.6% to 43%.

Expansion and Market Reach

Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has carved a niche in developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company operates six manufacturing facilities across India and exports its products to over 90 countries. It serves a diverse clientele, including government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. A significant portion of its revenue, over 74%, is derived from the sale of diagnostic test kits, with tuberculosis kits contributing 70% of this figure.

Financial Performance and Growth

Molbio's financials have shown robust growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore from FY24 to FY26. During the same period, net profit rose by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, and EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore. The EBITDA margin improved to 22.6% in FY26, up from 22% in FY24. Year-on-year, the company witnessed a 41.7% rise in revenue, a 27.9% increase in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit for FY26.

Valuation and Investor Considerations

The IPO values Molbio at a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, positioning it alongside other healthcare diagnostics firms such as Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijaya Diagnostic Centre, which trade at P/E ratios between 54 and 81. While Molbio lacks a directly comparable peer in India, its growth trajectory and the increasing demand for diagnostic solutions make it an attractive option for investors with a high-risk appetite seeking long-term gains.

Molbio's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostics system that delivers accurate test results within an hour, designed for resource-limited settings. The company's strategic collaborations and subsidiaries further bolster its offerings, which include molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases across 43 diagnostic assays, as well as radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.
