Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO Amid Revenue Surge

Molbio Diagnostics plans to raise ₹940 crore through an IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, driven by growth in TB test kits.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics industry, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise ₹940 crore. The company plans to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares to bolster its capital expenditures while generating ₹740 crore via an offer for sale, which will reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Strategic Expansion and Revenue Growth
Incorporated in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics operates six manufacturing facilities across India, serving over 90 countries. The company has carved a niche in the diagnostics sector, particularly with its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for a substantial portion of its revenues. These kits are part of the company's 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system catering to resource-limited settings, offering results in under an hour.
Molbio's revenue from operations surged by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26, with a net profit increase of 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore in the same period. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, marking an EBITDA margin of 22.6% in FY26, up from 22% in FY24.
Investor Considerations and Market Position
For investors with a high-risk appetite, Molbio's IPO presents an opportunity to tap into the rapidly expanding diagnostics market. The company has a significant reliance on government and international aid agencies, which contribute over four-fifths of its revenue. Despite this concentration, the firm's strategic growth in molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases positions it well in a competitive field.
Molbio's post-IPO valuation demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, which is in line with other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, whose P/E multiples range between 54 and 81.
Outlook for High-Risk Investors
While Molbio Diagnostics does not have a directly comparable listed peer in India, its strategic focus on scalable diagnostics solutions and strong financial performance make it an attractive proposition for investors seeking long-term growth. The IPO proceeds are expected to support further expansion and innovation, capitalizing on the burgeoning demand for diagnostic solutions globally.
