Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO Amid Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics aims to raise ₹940 crore via IPO to boost manufacturing and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is set to enter the public market with an initial public offering (IPO) valued at ₹940 crore. The company plans to utilize ₹200 crore from a fresh issue of shares to enhance its capital expenditures. Additionally, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Product Portfolio
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established itself as a leader in the development and manufacture of diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company's 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostic system, is designed for use in resource-limited settings and provides accurate test results within an hour. Molbio offers over 43 diagnostic assays, including solutions for radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening through its subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.
With six manufacturing sites across India, Molbio serves clients in over 90 countries, including government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. The company has seen substantial revenue growth, particularly from its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which account for 70% of its test kit sales.
Financial Performance and Market Potential
Molbio Diagnostics has demonstrated robust financial growth, with revenue from operations rising by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore and net profit increasing by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore between FY24 and FY26. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving to 22.6% in FY26.
The IPO demands a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, a figure comparable to other players in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sector, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, which trade at multiples between 54 and 81.
Investor Considerations
Molbio's reliance on government and international aid agencies for over 80% of its revenue highlights a significant concentration risk. However, the company's innovative product line and strong market presence provide a promising outlook for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth opportunities.
As Molbio continues to expand its global footprint and enhance its manufacturing capabilities, the upcoming IPO presents a significant opportunity for investors to participate in the growth of a leading diagnostics company.
