AI Summary

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to fund growth and reduce promoter stake, highlighting its global reach and strong revenue from TB test kits.

Molbio Diagnostics, a leader in molecular diagnostics, is set to launch an initial public offering (IPO) aimed at raising ₹940 crore. This move includes a ₹200 crore fresh issue dedicated to capital expenditures and a ₹740 crore offer for sale to reduce the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%. The IPO underscores the company's strategy to enhance its global footprint and financial stability.

Global Reach and Revenue Drivers

Operating six manufacturing facilities across India, Molbio Diagnostics exports its products to over 90 countries. The company is renowned for its tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, a major revenue driver, accounting for 70% of its diagnostic test kit sales. These kits, part of the 'Truenat' platform, are designed for quick and accurate results in resource-limited settings.

Molbio's client base includes government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Notably, its top clients contribute more than half of the company's revenue, indicating a concentrated customer base. The company also offers solutions in radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening, expanding its product portfolio through subsidiaries and strategic collaborations.

Financial Performance and Growth Prospects

Between FY24 and FY26, Molbio Diagnostics reported a 31.5% annual increase in revenue from operations, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore. Net profit surged 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while EBITDA grew 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with margins improving from 22% in FY24 to 22.6% in FY26.

In FY26 alone, the company saw a 41.7% rise in revenue, a 27.9% increase in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit. Despite lacking direct competitors in the Indian market, Molbio's valuation is comparable to healthcare diagnostics peers like Poly Medicure, Dr. Lal PathLabs, and Metropolis Healthcare, with P/E multiples ranging between 54 and 81.

Investor Considerations

Molbio Diagnostics' IPO presents an opportunity for high-risk investors seeking long-term growth. The company's strong financial performance, coupled with its expansion efforts, positions it as a potentially lucrative investment in the healthcare diagnostics sector. However, the concentration of revenue from a few major clients and heavy reliance on tuberculosis test kits may pose risks.

As Molbio continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the IPO aims to bolster its capital base, enabling further development and market penetration. Investors will watch closely to see if the company's growth trajectory aligns with its ambitious plans post-IPO.
