Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore Through IPO Amid Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to fund expansion and reduce promoter stake, aiming to bolster its global diagnostics footprint.
Molbio Diagnostics, a prominent player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is gearing up for its initial public offering (IPO) to raise a substantial ₹940 crore. The company aims to secure ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares to bolster its capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be generated via an offer for sale. This strategic move is set to decrease the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Product Portfolio
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has established a significant presence in the global market, operating six manufacturing facilities across India and serving clients in over 90 countries. The company's flagship product, the 'Truenat' platform, is a portable diagnostic system designed to deliver accurate results rapidly, even in resource-limited settings. Molbio offers molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases and has developed 43 diagnostic assays, with a strong focus on tuberculosis test kits, which account for 70% of its diagnostic kit sales.
The company caters to a diverse clientele, including government health programs, diagnostic laboratories, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Notably, over 80% of its revenue is driven by government and international aid agencies.
Financial Performance and Investor Appeal
Molbio's financial performance has been robust, with its revenue from operations witnessing a 31.5% annual increase, reaching ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. During the same period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore, while the operating profit before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore. The EBITDA margin improved slightly to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
The IPO is anticipated to attract high-risk investors seeking long-term growth opportunities, despite the company’s notable customer concentration risk, with the top clients contributing significantly to revenue. The price-earnings (P/E) multiple post-IPO is expected to be up to 57, aligning with P/E ratios of similar healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies in India, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs.
Strategic Outlook
Molbio's IPO is poised to enhance its financial flexibility and support its expansion plans, as the company continues to innovate and expand its diagnostic solutions portfolio. With a strong emphasis on infectious and non-communicable diseases, Molbio's strategic initiatives aim to solidify its position in the competitive diagnostics market. The company’s ability to sustain its growth trajectory and manage customer concentration will be key factors for potential investors to consider.
