Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore IPO to Fuel Global Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO to boost capital and reduce promoter stake, aiming for growth in global diagnostics markets.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, has announced plans to raise ₹940 crore through an initial public offering (IPO). The company aims to secure ₹200 crore via fresh shares to enhance its capital expenditures, while an additional ₹740 crore will be generated through an offer for sale, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Strategic Expansion Plans
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has carved a niche in developing diagnostic solutions for both infectious and non-communicable diseases. The company currently operates six manufacturing sites across India and serves clients in over 90 countries, including government health programs and international health organizations. Its innovative 'Truenat' platform, a portable diagnostics system, is particularly noted for delivering accurate test results within an hour, a crucial feature for resource-limited settings.
Molbio's product portfolio includes molecular testing solutions for over 30 diseases, supported by 43 diagnostic assays. The company's subsidiaries and strategic collaborations also offer radiology, digital pathology, and breast health screening solutions.
Financial Performance and Revenue Streams
Molbio Diagnostics has reported strong financial growth, with revenue from operations increasing by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore between FY24 and FY26. In the same period, net profit surged by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA rose by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24.
Significantly, 74% of Molbio's revenue stems from the sale of test kits, with tuberculosis diagnostic kits accounting for 70% of this segment. The company's reliance on government and international aid agencies is notable, as these clients contribute over four-fifths of its revenue.
Market Position and Valuation
Despite the absence of directly comparable listed peers in India, Molbio Diagnostics is positioning itself alongside other healthcare diagnostics and medical device companies, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs. These companies trade at price-earnings (P/E) multiples ranging from 54 to 81. Molbio's post-IPO valuation seeks a P/E multiple of up to 57, a competitive stance in the market.
As Molbio Diagnostics embarks on this IPO, the company presents a potentially attractive opportunity for investors with a high-risk appetite. Its established presence in the global diagnostics market and robust revenue growth underscore its long-term growth potential.
