Molbio Diagnostics Eyes ₹940 Crore IPO to Fuel Expansion

Molbio Diagnostics plans a ₹940 crore IPO, aiming to boost capital expenditure and reduce promoter stake.
Molbio Diagnostics, a key player in the molecular diagnostics sector, is gearing up for an initial public offering (IPO) intended to raise ₹940 crore. The company aims to collect ₹200 crore through a fresh issue of shares, which will be directed towards capital expenditures. In parallel, an offer for sale is expected to generate ₹740 crore, reducing the promoter group's stake from 46.6% to 43%.
Global Reach and Revenue Growth
Founded in 2000, Molbio Diagnostics has expanded its operations significantly, now managing six manufacturing facilities in India and serving customers in over 90 countries. The company provides diagnostic solutions to government health programs, diagnostic labs, hospitals, and international healthcare organizations. Notably, over 70% of its revenue is derived from tuberculosis diagnostic test kits, which are part of the company's Truenat platform. This portable system delivers accurate results within an hour, particularly benefiting resource-limited settings.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Molbio's financials have shown robust growth between FY24 and FY26. Revenue from operations surged by 31.5% annually to ₹1,445.7 crore, while net profit increased by 40.2% to ₹164.1 crore. The company's EBITDA grew by 33.2% to ₹328.2 crore, with the EBITDA margin improving to 22.6% in FY26 from 22% in FY24. On a year-on-year basis, FY26 saw a 41.7% rise in revenue, a 27.9% increase in EBITDA, and an 18.4% growth in net profit.
Valuation and Investment Considerations
The IPO is set to command a price-earnings (P/E) multiple of up to 57, a figure that reflects Molbio's growth prospects despite having no direct listed peers in India. Comparable companies in the healthcare diagnostics and medical device sectors, such as Poly Medicure and Dr. Lal PathLabs, trade at P/E multiples ranging from 54 to 81.
Given Molbio's revenue concentration on a few large clients and its reliance on government and international aid agencies for over 80% of its income, the IPO presents a high-risk, high-reward opportunity for investors. The company's strategic focus on expanding its product offerings and geographic reach could potentially deliver substantial long-term growth.
